Announcing the South Bend - Elkhart Region’s Labs for Industry Futures and Transformation (LIFT) Network & iNDustry Labs.
Made possible through the generous support of the Lilly Endowment.
A collaboration of the the South Bend - Elkhart Regional Partnership, the University of Notre Dame and other key regional stakeholders, the LIFT Network and iNDustry Labs will provide state-of-the-art R&D facilities, experiential learning programs, business optimization services and workforce training programs.
The vision of the LIFT Network and iNDustry Labs is to mobilize a more productive, resilient and talent-driven region in the digital economy.
Strong industry, institutional, and civic collaborations will be the hallmark of the LIFT Network. In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing additional details for opportunities to participate and access the new resources.
The LIFT Network envisions success ultimately to be a more productive, resilient and skilled South Bend - Elkhart Region. The activities within the LIFT Network are aligned to drive progress toward these three overarching goals over the next five years.
Productivity/Industry Growth: Increase the productivity by 5% for the regional industry partners engaged with the LIFT Network through technological advancement, operational efficiencies, new product lines and access to broader markets.
Economy Resilience: Broaden the region’s industrial base by catalyzing growth in emerging, high-potential economic sectors in areas such as IT/data analytics, heath tech, aerospace, defense and more. Launch at least 25 high-potential startups, based in the region, in advanced industry sectors to diversify the regional industrial mix.
Advanced Skills: LIFT Network aims to deepen the region’s talent base with cutting-edge skills and knowledge by 1) expanding post secondary credential offerings in advanced industry and STEM related areas, 2) developing best-in-class k-12 apprenticeship program in the region, 3) launching a new regional effort to engage students at regional colleges and universities with hands-on experiential learning and capstone projects with regional industry partners.
“The South Bend - Elkhart region has important core strengths, including Notre Dame’s extraordinary educational and research capabilities; a strong industrial base, especially the companies and talented employees in the area’s exceptional mobility cluster; and compelling opportunities in diversified sectors such as IT and data analytics. The LIFT Network will connect and strengthen these assets in ways that will help enhance the quality of life for the people in the Region.”Rob Smith, Lilly Endowment’s vice president for community development.
